How to get a duplicate licence

Currently, all driving licence applications are done in-person at our offices by the licence owner. You cannot apply for a licence on behalf of someone.

For the full list of what you need to replace a lost or misplaced licence, please visit the duplicate licence checklist page.

To replace your driving licence you’ll need to:

  1. Report the loss of your driving licence to any branch of the Uganda Police and secure a police report to the effect.
  2. Go to the URA website or the Ministry of Works and Transport e-services portal to generate the duplicate licence payment registration slip/assessment form (PRN).
  3. Go to a bank of your choice and pay the appropriate fee to the URA (the bank will provide the account number). Alternatively, you can pay through your preferred mobile money service, PayWay, or using a debit/credit card.
  4. Go to the UDLS offices with the Police report, proof of payment/payment registration number, and your national ID.
  5. UDLS will capture your biometric features.
  6. UDLS will issue the duplicate licence.

Please note: UDLS does not handle any payments. We do not accept cash at our branches.
